VR240 Digital Communications
Logger

The Eventide VR240 Digital-Audio
Logger allows users to replace mountains of expensive, unwieldy reel-to-reel
tapes with tiny, economical DAT tapes. It is ideally suited for full-time
audio logging of public safety communications, 9-1-1 Emergency phone
lines, air traffic control, calls to financial services firms, broadcast
programming and other uses.
Fully compatible with the Dictaphone 9800 series, the Eventide
VR240's technology has been proven around the world. It uses the latest
DAT drive standard, DDS-2, to provide storage of 500+ hourson 120 meter
data grade DAT tapes, divided among up to 24 channels. Shorter tapes
of 90 meters and 60 meters can also be used. On playback, the VR240
searches by date, time and channel to locate any audio segment in under
two minutes.
The Eventide VR240 is available in one or two drive models.
The two drive model provides maximum flexibility by recording on one
drive while simultaneously playing back on the second. Or, the unit
can be set to record two identical tapes simultaneously, creating a
"start/stop" work tape and an uninterrupted archive tape.
The second drive can also be automatically switched to start recording
when the first tape is full, thus doubling unattended logging time to
over 1000 hours.
A new feature of the VR240 makes it more versatile than
ever. The unit is now equipped with an internal hard disk memory module
with a capacity of approximately 120 channel-hours (longer storage capacities
are optionally available.) the memory module can continue to record
even if the tape is playing back an earlier segment. Upon resumption
of tape recording, the memory module transfers to the tape the audio
that was not recorded in real-time, thus maintaining the completeness
of the taped log. For additional protection, the VR240 protects its
data with a built-in Uninterruptible Power Supply, which allows the
unit to continue recording through brief outages. This also provides
a "data-safe" power down sequence should the power outage
continue.
The VR240 Digital-Audio Logger can be ordered with 8, 16,
or 24-input channels. Upgrades to additional channels from the 8 or
16 channel versions are as simple as plugging in one or two optional
8-channel I/O boards. The user can specify and combination of standard
audio input I/O boards and boards that are optimized for interfacing
with telephone systems.
As an option, the VR240 can now be ordered with Exabyte
8mm drives in lieu of the standard DAT drives. These drives are capable
of recording about 1000 channel hours on each tape, almost twice the
capacity of 120 meter DAT tapes. Another option for added convenience
is an inexpensive printer which the VR240 uses to automatically print
its own tape labels, including beginning and end date and time.
Eventide also offers a line of compact, economical 4-channel
DAT-based recorder/players and playback-only decks which offer two-way
compatibility with the Eventide VR240 and Dictaphone 9800 series 24-channel
loggers. Any of the 24 channels on tapes recorded in these machines
can be searched and played back on the Eventide 4-channel units - up
to four channels can be played simultaneously. Tapes recorded on the
4-channel recorder can also be played back on the 24-channel Eventide
VR240 and Dictaphone 9800 units as well. As well as our 4-channel VR204
recorder/player and VP204 playback deck, as well as the two piece desktop
model VP244 playback unit.
Eventide is a pioneer in the development of digital communications
loggers. The proven technology and advanced features of the VR240 series
make it the ideal choice for preserving important communications.
