Hi-Fi Board The Eventide VR240 revolutionized logging of broadcast programming by providing hundreds of hours of multi-channel storage on a tiny DAT tape. In keeping with normal logging requirements which require intelligibility but not high fidelity, Eventide digital loggers have recorded with a frequency response extending to 3400 Hz, in order to maximize recording tape and channel capacity. However, we have received a number of requests from broadcasters around the world to build a unit which can record with wider bandwidth, so recorded programming could be rebroadcast with good quality. To meet these needs, Eventide has developed an optional "Hi-Fi" audio board with user-selectable variable bandwidth capability for the VR320 and VR240 Digital Loggers. VR320/VR240 units equipped with one or more "Hi-Fi" audio boards can record and playback with extended frequency response from 20Hz to 7.2kHz, 12.4kHz, 14.4kHz, or even 21.6kHz, in addition to the standard 3400Hz response. Naturally, increasing the frequency response decreases the number of channel hours which can be recorded on a single DAT tape. To maximize audio quality, the "Hi-Fi" audio board employs 16 bit A/D and D/A converters, in contrast to the 8 bit converters used on the standard board, and provides 85 dB of dynamic range. The "Hi-Fi" VR320/VR240 unit is the perfect answer for delayed broadcast applications, archiving news actualities and recording long-form programs which may later be replayed or excerpted for "Best Of..." shows. The new "Hi-Fi" audio board can be ordered with new VR320/VR240 units. Existing VR240 units can also be upgraded to accommodate the new board. Contact Eventide for more information.
