The RPV516A will be available on January 25, 2002.

The RPV516A is a sixteen-channel VHF hand-held two-way radio and will be sold as a complete package that includes a rapid-rate desktop charger and an 1100-mAH nickel-metal-hydride battery. The unit is constructed to military specification (mil-spec) standards and is full-featured with capabilities such as two-tone encode and decode and priority channel scanning. It is also, however, compact, lightweight, and inexpensive. The new radio's software can be cloned to other RPV516A units quickly and easily, or programming can be done using windows-based software.

The UHF model (RPU516A) is planned for release in the first quarter of 2002. Models with 32 channels that are field programmable are planned for release in the second quarter of 2002. The RP series of portable radios enables RELM to reestablish its product offerings within the commercial, business, and industrial segments of the land mobile radio market, complimenting the more sophisticated portable two-way radios currently offered under the BK Radio brand name.
